| At Manchaca Baptist, we hope to follow Jesus’ words in Acts 1:8 as a model for missions: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem (local missions), Judea and Samaria (regional missions) and to the ends of the earth (international missions). Here is our plan to living out that missions plan for 2008.
Local Missions: Class Mission Projects
We will share the love of Jesus all over the greater Austin area as each of our Sunday School classes, children through senior adults, perform two mission projects during the year. Each class will determine the project that best suites their gifts and passions, doing one in the first half of the year and one in the second half. What a great opportunity to involve more people in missions to our own community.
Regional Missions: Rio Grande Valley
This summer (July 26 – August 2) we will send a church-wide team, both youth and adults, to the Rio Grande Valley for a week of working with kids and teenagers, building homes, and working on churches. This trip is in conjunction with CBF Texas who has targeted the Rio Grande Valley as one of the most impoverished areas in America. Our hope would be to build a partnership with a neighborhood there where each year we go and work with the same children and families.
International Missions: Guatemala
Next winter (January 3-11) we will send a small team to Guatemala to join Buckner International and FBC Waco in a trip to the Salvation Foundation orphanage in Huehuetenango, Guatemala. There we will spend a week loving on the children who live at the orphanage. Not only will those who go be blessed, but we will also be gathering supplies for school, shoes, toys – the whole church can be involved in our ministry there. This year we will send a small team to join this group that has been going. We may continue to join them or perhaps take our own week in later years.
